The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has claimed that there is no ceasefire in the Gaza Strip because Israel is not making a ‘sincere’ proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza. They said they want an ‘immediate’ ceasefire but it is not happening because of Israel.

Hamas leader Dr. Bassem Naim told the Sky News show that the two warring parties last presented a “specific, mediated agreement” on July 2.

He said, ‘It was widely discussed. I think we are getting closer to a ceasefire. It could have stopped the war. It included a permanent armistice, total withdrawal and prisoner exchange.’

He said, unfortunately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu chose something different.

Naim called on the incoming Trump administration to do whatever is necessary to help end the war.

He said Hamas does not regret the October 7, 2023 attack. 12 hundred people were killed in the attack conducted from Gaza. Since then, Israeli attacks have killed more than 43,000 people in Gaza. Besides, several lakh people were injured.

He said Israel was guilty of carrying out a “massive massacre” in Gaza. In response to a question, he said the October 7 attack by Hamas was ‘self-defence.’ Blaming Hamas for the incident, he said, “is like blaming the victims of aggression for the crimes of the aggressors.”

He said, ‘I am a member of Hamas. But at the same time I am an innocent Palestinian civilian. I have the right to live freely, to lead a normal life, to defend myself, to defend my family.’

Asked if he felt remorse for the October 7 attack, he said, ‘Do you think any prisoner would be remorseful if he tried to break the door? It is part of our dignity… a matter of our self-preservation, a question of protecting our children.’
