Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed all concerned including the civil administration to take advance preparations to deal with possible floods in the country.
The Prime Minister gave this directive while presiding over the first meeting of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) Executive Committee (FY25) organized at the conference room of NEC, Sherebangla Nagar in the capital on Tuesday (July 2).
During the press briefing after the meeting, Planning Minister Major General (retd) Abdus Salam said that flood situation may occur in the country in the coming days, probably in August – the Prime Minister gave this instruction based on the forecast of Bangladesh Meteorological Department and related experts.
In this regard, he directed all concerned to take necessary preparations to deal with the possible flood and its effects.
Senior Secretary of Planning Department Satyajit Karmakar said that apart from this, the Prime Minister clearly said that there is a danger of floods in the whole country in the month of August. Since that time, the country has seen continuous rainfall along with the rising water of major rivers.
He said that the Prime Minister has directed all concerned including the civil administration and field level administration to take the necessary preparations of the administration to deal with the flood and its effects to protect the people of the country from the effects and devastation of the flood.
The senior secretary of the planning department said that a total of 11 projects were approved in the meeting. The estimated total cost of the projects is Tk 5,459.87 crore.
He said, ‘Out of the total project cost, 5,214.34 crores will come from Bangladesh government. 140.44 crores from the project assistance and the remaining 105.09 crores will come from the respective organization’s own funds.
The senior secretary said that out of the 11 approved projects, seven are new projects and four are revised projects.
State Minister for Planning Md. Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, members of Planning Commission and concerned secretaries were present in the meeting.
