The army and police have recovered about 5 crore rupees including dollars and euros from the residence of Amir Hossain Amur, Member of Parliament of Jhalkathi-2 Constituency in Jhalkathi.
According to the police, fire was set at Amir Hussain Amur’s residence on Ronalse Road in Jhalkathi city on Monday. While putting out the fire at around 12:30 pm, the fire service members found this money in the luggage. Later, when the matter was reported to the army and police, they came and recovered this money in the luggage.
An angry mob vandalized and set fire to the residence of Amir Hossain Amu Jhalkathi in the afternoon after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on Monday afternoon. Later, the fire service personnel made several attempts to extinguish the fire and brought it under control. However, around 12 o’clock in the night, the locals saw the fire again on the third floor of the building. On receiving the information, the fire service personnel came there and threw water while extinguishing the fire, bundles of money came out from some burnt luggage.
The fire service personnel informed the matter to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police. Later, army and policemen came and recovered the luggage. From this, they confirmed the recovery of Tk 1 crore undamaged in one luggage and Tk 2 crore 77 lakh partially burned from the other luggage. He also recovered dollars and euros. In total, about 5 crores of rupees and foreign currency were recovered.
Jhalkathi Fire Service Station Master Md. Shafiqul Islam said that some bundles of money came out while extinguishing the fire of many blankets in the third floor room of the building. A few pieces of luggage are also available with it. After informing the District Commissioner, army and police came and recovered the money.
