Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, every martyr in this movement is our national hero. The whole country and even the world saw the scene of their extreme bravery. Their sacrifice has given us renewed inspiration.
He said this at a civic funeral meeting near Upazila Health Complex in Upazila Sadar on Saturday (August 10) afternoon.
After the event, the Amir of the Jamaat visited the graves of the victims and met their family members and gave financial donations.
It is known that a civil mourning meeting was held in honor of the seven martyrs who were shot by the police during the anti-discrimination student movement in Golapganj of Sylhet and this prayer was held to pray for the forgiveness of their souls.
Upazila Jamaat Acting Amir Jinnur Ahmad Chowdhury presided over and Municipal Jamaat Naib Amir Rehan Uddin Raihan and Upazila Jamaat Assistant Secretary Ehteshamul Alam Zakaria spoke as the chief guest. Shafiqur Rahman.
In the mourning meeting, he demanded that all those involved in the killings in the quota reform movement, including the seven martyrs of Golapganj, be brought to justice.
Central Assistant Secretary General Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Member of Central Executive Council and Amir of Dhaka South Jamaat Muhammad Salim Uddin spoke as special guests.
Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat Amir Fakhrul Islam, Naib Amir Maulana Sohail Ahmad, Sylhet District South Jamaat Acting Amir and former Upazila Chairman Maulana Lokman Ahmad, District North Amir Hafiz Anwar Hossain Khan, Secretary Former Upazila Chairman Joynal Abedin, District Assistant Secretary, Former Upazila Chairman Saifullah Al Hossain, former Golapganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Hafiz Nazmul Islam, Golapganj Municipal Jamaat Amir Maulana Abdul Khaliq, Upazila Jamaat Secretary Abdul Aziz and Dhaka South UP Chairman Maulana Abdur Rahim etc.
Leaders of Upazila and Municipal Jamaat and Student Camp were also present in the mourning meeting.
