Strong Earthquake Hits Japan The magnitude of the earthquake was 5.6. The earthquake struck off the country’s remote Izu Islands on Tuesday.

Japan Meteorological Agency said a tsunami of one meter (3.3 inches) was expected to hit the Izu Islands at 8:30 a.m. local time and the Ogasawara Islands around 9 a.m. local time.
However, residents of the island told Japan’s national broadcaster NHK that they did not feel the earthquake.
Note that in March 2011, an earthquake of magnitude 9 occurred in Japan. About 18,500 people died in the tsunami caused by the powerful earthquake.
