In view of the upcoming US presidential election, the current president Joe Biden and his main opponent Donald Trump faced each other in a televised debate for the first time. However, the leaders of his party, the Democratic Party, were disappointed by Biden’s performance in the debate.
Joe Biden’s allies wanted him to take the stage at the debate Thursday night with a more assertive question and a show of strength that would put to rest any questions about the 81-year-old Democrat’s physical and mental fitness. But Biden could not meet the general expectations of well-wishers on the biggest stage of US politics.
The Democratic president’s supporters and allies were left frustrated and appalled at the end of the tense 90-minute debate as Biden stumbled, paused uncomfortably and spoke in a low tone that often made it difficult for many to understand. After Biden’s performance on the debate stage, his allies became concerned.
Democrats have questioned whether the party can or should move Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee against 78-year-old former President Donald Trump.
Former Democratic Senator Claire McCaskill told MSNBC, ‘I’m not the only one who’s heartbroken right now. A lot of people watched the show tonight and they’re upset about Joe Biden. I don’t know if anything can be done to fix it.
