BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the country’s democracy was hurt and killed for the first time by Awami League in 1975.
He made this comment at the founding anniversary of the Revolutionary Workers Party at Segunbagicha in the capital on Friday.
Mirza Fakhrul said that Bangladesh’s misfortune was the main goal of the people of Bangladesh in the struggle for independence. I will change the state of the country. We will build a democratic state. Unfortunately, it was wounded and killed for the first time by the Awami League in 1975. Since then, the people of this country have not always had the taste of democracy. More unfortunate for us, the trend of democracy – we could not continue in it.
He said, ‘When the country leader Begum Khaleda Zia arranged the caretaker government, then we had a chance for democratic conditions. But unfortunately the current ruling group has destroyed everything. By arranging elections under the party government, Bangladesh has once again been pushed towards instability and uncertainty. Now it has reached a point where the existence of the state of Bangladesh is threatened.’
Commenting that Bangladesh is now in the biggest crisis, Mirza Fakhrul said, on the one hand there is no democracy, on the other hand the sovereignty of the country is under threat.
Commenting that the movement for the release of national leader Begum Khaleda Zia is closely related to the democratic movement, BNP Secretary General said, ‘The movement is necessary for the release of Begum Khaleda Zia. She is not only BNP leader, she is the leader of democracy. He came into politics to restore democracy. He played a very instrumental role in building our democratic culture by establishing caretaker government system.’
He said, even if you can’t get on the same stage, it’s a big thing to move simultaneously. Everyone is agitating. It is historic for the country.
“The government will be removed and the people’s government will be established through the movement after discussions with everyone,” added the BNP general secretary.
Believing that the movement to restore democracy will never fail, Mirza Fakhrul said, “We will succeed.” The movement to establish democracy, truth, justice, human rights and society never fails.
