Secretary General and former MP of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Professor Mia Golam Parwar issued a statement on September 24 expressing deep concern and condemnation and protest over the solitary killing of Army officer Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar in Dulahajra area of Cox’s Bazar.
In the statement, he said, during the operation of the joint forces on Monday night, an army officer Lt. Tanjim Sarwar Nirjan (39 ST Battalion) was killed in an attack by terrorists in Dulahajra area of Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the incident. Joint forces surrounded a suspect’s house around 12:30 pm on Monday. At this time Lieutenant Tanzim challenged two terrorists. At one point, when he tried to catch the terrorists, the terrorists stabbed him in the neck. Tanjim was quickly rescued and taken to Chakaria Christian Hospital in critical condition. When his condition deteriorated, Ramu was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead at 4:50 am. I express deep concern and condemn and protest this incident. At the same time, I pray for the forgiveness of the soul of the patriotic army officer Tanjim Sarwar and express my deepest condolences to his family.
He further said that this death while engaged in peace and order work is very painful and sad. This unexpected incident has created anxiety in the country. It has become very important to restore peace, order and harmony in the entire country including the three hill districts. The perpetrators of vandalism must be dealt with strictly.
He said, I call upon the concerned authorities to quickly arrest the killers of the patriotic army officer Tanjim Sarwar Nirjan and give them exemplary punishment. At the same time, I am calling on all the countrymen to support the joint forces engaged in the work of peace and order across the country.
