Child Mim Akhtar (4) and his maternal grandfather Nashir Mollah died in a traveling bus while crossing the road in Lakshmipur. The accident took place on the Laxmipur-Dhaka regional highway in front of the Siam petrol pump in the East Hajipara area of Sadar Upazila around 9 am on Monday.
The deceased Mimi and Nashir are residents of Bhola district.
According to the police and witnesses, Mimi and Nashir came to the launch from Bhola. Later they boarded the Shahi bus from Majuchaudhurirhat area of Sadar Upazila to Chittagong. The bus reached the spot and stopped at the pump to get oil. At that time, Nashir got off the bus with his granddaughter and was going to the shop on the opposite side of the road. A bus hits them while crossing the road. Mimi died on the spot. Meanwhile, his uncle Nashir was also seriously injured. Later he was rescued and taken to Sadar Hospital where he also died while undergoing treatment.
Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Sadar Hospital, Arup Pal, said one child was brought dead in the accident. One more person named Nashir was brought in injured condition. He died while undergoing treatment. The body has been kept in the morgue. It is known that they are great-grandchildren.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Highway Police Ruhul Amin said the accident took place while crossing the road. The body of the dead child and the injured person have been sent to Sadar Hospital. Nashir also died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
