After the Prime Minister of Slovakia, the Danish Prime Minister Mite Frederiksen has been publicly attacked. Police have arrested a person in this incident.
The attack took place on a street in Kultarvet area of the country’s capital, Copenhagen. Witnesses say a man walked up to the Danish prime minister and hit him on the shoulder.
The attack happened just two days before the European Union elections in the country.
Ursula von der Leyen, the head of the European Union (EU), referred to this incident as a despicable act.
Why the attack on Prime Minister Frederiksen happened, the police said, is being investigated. They did not immediately say more.
A police officer on duty at the scene said that the Prime Minister was shifted from there immediately after the incident.
According to Denmark TV2, before the attack, Frederiksen participated in an election campaign with his Social Democrats candidate Christel Schaldemoz in the EU elections.
Frederiksen’s party is the largest party in the country’s current coalition government. So far this party has been leading the elections. However, the party’s public support has been on the decline for several months.
On May 15, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, another European country, Robert Fico was publicly shot. Although he survived his severe injuries, he had to undergo several surgeries.
