The students protested to demand the permanent expulsion of Jagannath University (JUB) Assistant Professor of Islamic History and Culture, Abu Saleh Sikandar, for allegedly opposing the anti-discrimination student movement and commenting on an “intellectually wrong decision to ban Chhatra League” on a national online portal.

On Tuesday (November 5) morning, all the classrooms of the Department of Islamic History and Culture were locked by the general students of the department. After that, they started a procession from the front of the department and came in front of the VC building and held a protest program.

Later they submitted a memorandum with VC demanding 4 points including permanent expulsion of Sekander. Their slogans were “Dalal’s address, not in this campus”, “Abu Saleh Batpar, leave the campus now”, “Against Abu Saleh, direct action”. Later, the students threw shoes on the banner of disqualifying Abu Saleh Sekendar.

The protesting students demand that by today Saleh Sekendar should be suspended from salary allowances and all facilities. Within the next 7 working days, the investigation committee should be formed and the report should be issued for permanent expulsion. Exemption of Academic Committee 2019 From then till now, arrangements should be made to take back the salary allowances and financial privileges that have been unfairly privileged and until temporary expulsion and investigation subject to permanent expulsion and legal action is taken, all types of class examinations will be stopped.

In this regard, Masud Rana, a student of physics department, said, “I will not allow the accomplices of Hasina, the killer of August 5, to enter the university campus. When students were fired upon, no teacher protested. Now they are dressed as saints. Shaheed Sajid, Abu Saeed and Mochad will suffer if those who were part of the August killings are allowed to enter the campus.”

One of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement. Noor Nabi said, “In the past, those who used to extort, tender and murder the dictatorial government were appointed as teachers in this university. They became teachers only because of the BCL posts. Saleh Sekendar is one of them.”

Abu Saleh Sekender, the accused teacher, was contacted on the phone and said, “I don’t know anything about the movement.” Then he hung up.

Note that in a national online portal teacher Abu Saleh Sekender’s column “Intellectual wrong decision to ban Chhatra League” mentioned, “The law banning Chhatra League seems to be a very ridiculous and short-sighted decision. Banning al-Qaeda or IS is not the same thing as banning a traditional student body like the Chhatra League.” After this, the students of the university erupted.
