There has been anxiety and tension in the political arena for the past few days around August 15 in the country.
The Interim Government of Bangladesh has decided to cancel the National Mourning Day on August 15, which was a public holiday on Tuesday.
Awami League wants to pay tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by gathering at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on this day.
On the other hand, the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement have announced to stay in the field so that the party cannot hold any program.
Due to such opposing positions of the two sides, there is a fear of creating a violent situation in the country again. About which a kind of concern is being observed among the common people.
These incidents are happening at a time when the country’s police force has been under attack for its controversial role.
As a result, analysts fear that it will be quite challenging for the current government to deal with a violent situation.
On August 15, 1975, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed with his family.
Since Sheikh Hasina came to power in 1996, this day has been observed as National Mourning Day. Later, after the BNP-Jamaat coalition government came to power in 2002, this decision was revoked.
Later in 2008, after coming to power for the second time, the day was reinstated by a High Court order.
