Ali Raihan (28), the organizing secretary of Rajshahi Mahanagar Chhatra Shibir, died four days after being shot in a clash surrounding the quota reform movement. He died on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College (RAMEC) Hospital.
Earlier on Monday, Raihan was shot dead in a clash between police and Awami League leaders and activists demanding the fall of the government. Ashraful Islam Emon, the former president of the Rajshahi University branch of the student camp, confirmed that the deceased Raihan was the organizing secretary of the organization’s Rajshahi metropolitan branch.
Brigadier General FM Shamim Ahmed, director of Ramek Hospital, said, “Raihan was shot in the head. Surgery was also performed. He was then admitted to the ICU. The physical condition was very critical. Raihan died in the evening while under treatment.’
At least 40 people were injured in the clash last Monday. 30 of them were shot. A university student named Shakib Anjum (27) was hacked to death with a sharp weapon while fleeing from the clash site that day. This was the first case of death in Rajshahi in this movement. Then Raihan died as the second person.
