Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali proposed a budget of 7 lakh 97 thousand crore taka for the next financial year 2024-25. He presented the proposed budget in the third session of the National Assembly on Thursday.
The Finance Minister started presenting the budget speech titled ‘Commitment to building a happy, prosperous, developed and smart Bangladesh’ from 3 pm.
The size of the proposed budget is Tk 7 lakh 97 thousand crore, which is 14.2 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) and 4.6 percent over the current fiscal year 2023-24.
This is the 53rd budget of the country, the 25th of the Awami League-led government and the first budget of Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali as the finance minister.
The revenue target in the budget is 5 lakh 41 thousand crores. The remaining 2 lakh 56 thousand crores will be targeted for borrowing. Annual Development Program (ADP) of Tk 2 lakh 65 thousand crore has already been approved.
