Some BNP leaders of Chittagong have done the duty of moving 14 luxury cars used by S Alam Group Chairman Saiful Alam Masud and his family members from one place to another. A related video has spread on social media.
The luxury cars were removed one by one from a warehouse in the city’s Kalurghat industrial area on Thursday night, soon after the Bangladesh Bank governor announced that no one should buy the land and assets owned by S Alam Group.
These cars include BMW, Mercedes and Audi, Porsche and Range Rover etc.
Eyewitnesses said the luxury cars were removed from a warehouse owned by Mir Group in the city’s Kalurghat Industrial Area (BCIC) around 8 pm on Thursday.
In that video, Chittagong South District BNP Joint Convener Enamul Haque Enam, Patia Upazila Youth Party Member Secretary Ahidul Alam Chowdhury Pibulu and Chittagong South District Chhatra Dal Joint Convener Sheikh Mohammad Hossain Nayan are supervising the removal of the vehicles. At the same time Chittagong South District BNP convener Abu Sufian’s car driver Mansoor S Alam was supervising the removal of the cars from the warehouse.
In the changed situation of the country, the presence of BNP top leaders in removing the cars used by the Chairman of S Alam Group and his relatives has raised questions in the public mind.
The witness also said that after the luxury cars left the warehouse, BNP leader Enam and others left the area.
When several people trusted by S Alam Group were contacted to inquire about this, they said on the condition of anonymity that for the sake of security, arrangements have been made to remove the expensive cars from the warehouse and keep them elsewhere. Earlier, on the night of August 5, the vehicles were removed from Nasirabad residential area of the city and kept in a warehouse owned by S Alam Group in Moizzartek area of Karnaphuli upazila.
Regarding the video spread, Chittagong South District BNP Joint Convenor Enamul Haque told The Daily Star, ‘In the video and news spread on social media, it is said that expensive cars are being taken out of S Alam’s warehouse. But in reality I went to Mir Group’s warehouse in Kalurghat industrial area of the city.’
He also said, ‘Mir Group Chairman Abdus Salam and I are Mamato-Fupato brothers. Salam bhai called me and said that some boys of BNP demanded subscription from him. So I accompanied BNP leader Sufian Bhai to a warehouse owned by Mir Group in Kalurghat Industrial Area (BCIC). I don’t know whose cars were there. I went there to help Salam Bhai because of my kinship.’
Enamul Haque also said, “Mir Group chairman Abdus Salam’s daughter got married to S Alam Group chairman Saiful Alam Masud’s son.” In that sense they are relatives. They can keep S Alam’s car in their warehouse for safety. I don’t see anything wrong with it.’
Chittagong South District BNP convener Abu Sufian, when contacted on his mobile phone, told Daily Star, ‘I am in a rally. Contact later.’
