Top leaders of BNP and like-minded parties have expressed their support for holding elections by 2025. They believe that if the elections cannot be held by 2025, they may be further delayed for various reasons. Therefore, they also expressed their opinion that they will do whatever is necessary to hold fair and acceptable elections based on overall cooperation with the interim government.
The leaders expressed such views at a meeting of the BNP’s liaison committee at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan in the capital on Saturday afternoon, separately with the 12-party alliance, the Nationalist Like-Minded Alliance and the Bangladesh Labor Party.
At the meeting, BNP urged the alliance leaders to remain united and not create divisions among themselves. At the same time, they were informed that their views on the election would be discussed at the BNP standing committee meeting. BNP’s position on the election issue would be formally presented at a press conference.
After the meeting, BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said, “We have discussed with the leaders of the 12-party alliance. A decision will be made after discussing with like-minded alliances and others. Then we will inform you of our decision.”
