The workers of a garment factory called Taratex Fashion Limited protested by blocking the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Tongi, Gazipur, demanding unpaid salaries.
They took a position on the highway in the local Khanpara area around 8:30 am on Wednesday.
They protested for about an hour and a half. Later, in the presence of the police and the army, they lifted the blockade from the highway and took a stand in front of the factory.
The protesting workers said that they have not been getting their salary for two months. The owner party has repeatedly promised and is not paying it. Meanwhile, the workers are living an inhumane life without getting the due salary. They are in a chaotic situation due to the pressure of the house owners and shopkeepers. In this situation, the protesting workers were forced to come down on the highway.
Gazipur Industrial Police Assistant Superintendent of Police Mosharf Hossain said that the agitating workers have been explained and removed from the highway. Now they are standing in front of the factory. Discussions are going on with the owners and workers to solve the problem. Industrial police are deployed at the spot.
