Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon, a member of parliament during the ousted fascist Sheikh Hasina government on August 5. Apart from making money through casinos, there are many allegations of various misdemeanors, including extortion, tendering, illegal sand extraction, and other crimes against this former member of parliament known as ‘Bholer Don’. Not only that, there are also serious charges against him like smuggling yaba across the country through helicopters. It is known that Shaon has become the owner of thousands of crores of rupees in the last 14 years through these activities. In addition, he was once called the godfather of Dhaka’s underworld. Shaon remained in custody while the Awami League was in power despite numerous misdemeanor allegations; Dordanda was majestic. Suppression, persecution, torture was going on if someone said the word against him. Dissident party leaders and activists were not spared from this; But the scenario has changed in the changing context of the country. After Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, she herself went into hiding.
Since being elected as a Member of Parliament for the first time in the 2010 by-election, he has committed various crimes including torture. It started with the sensational killing of Jubo League leader Ibrahim in Dhaka. However, Shaon withdrew his name from the charge sheet due to the influence of power in the case filed in this murder.
This former member of parliament from Bhola-3 constituency has been in power for 14 years and has continued to suppress the opposition. Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Birvikram, former minister and member of BNP standing committee, was attacked on the orders of Shawon. Shaon’s undeclared ban on Hafiz Uddin’s entry into the constituency. During the election in 2018, this leader of BNP was kept locked inside the house.
Complaints of local residents – Shaon, a four-time member of parliament, confirmed his victory in the elections arranged through onion-corruption three times. Shaon’s cadre forces attacked the convoy of Major (retd) Jasim Uddin, another former member of Parliament of his party, Major (retd) Jasim Uddin, as he was a candidate against Shaon. Due to different opinions, Shawon also harassed the former upazila chairman of his party, Principal Nazrul Islam, and attacked him. After the attack, Major (retd) Jasim Uddin Shaon received no legal help despite filing multiple complaints against him at Lalmohan and Tajumuddin police stations. Jasim also complained about this at that time; But nothing happened to Shawn.
Recently, Riad Hossain Hannan, the former chairman of Tajumaddin Upazila’s Chachra Union, and Hossain Bhola, the former chairman of Lalmohan’s Charbhuta Union, the former president of Awami League, complained in the press club that his terrorists attacked and vandalized the houses of Bhola-3 Constituency Member of Parliament Noornabi Chowdhury Shaon. Terrorists vandalized and looted 14 houses, shops.
According to the information obtained from multiple sources, Shaon and his wife Farzana Chowdhury have thousands of crores of wealth in their names. Residents and teachers of Shaon’s constituency alleged that this former member of parliament earned hundreds of crores of rupees by tendering and extortion in Lalmohan and Tajumuddin. Out of these, the allocation of money for primary schools has been looted, in the case of secondary schools, madrasas, colleges, they have taken from 5 to 30 lakhs in different types. It is alleged that no recruitment process would have been completed without Shaun’s instructions.
Sources say that Shawon took a subscription of Tk 7 crore during the construction of school-market in Lalmohan upazila headquarters. He stole more than 20 crore rupees by making fake bills and vouchers from municipalities and district councils. Apart from this, he embezzled more than crores of rupees by selling the school pond. Shaon stole more than 500 crore rupees by showing fake bills from municipalities, roads and highways, LGED for various development works. Cases were filed in the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in these incidents. Apart from this, during the rule of Awami League, daily subscriptions were collected in the name of Shaon from various road and sidewalk shops including kitchen markets.
It is alleged that Shaon has earned hundreds of crores of rupees through tender trade from almost all the offices of Lalmohan and Tajumuddin upazilas. Despite the ban of the High Court, illegal vehicles were running on the road with its green signal. In exchange for this, the cadres of Shaon used to collect a large sum of money. Finally, Shaon collected Tk 80 lakh in advance from the lessee against giving the toll collection work of Lalmohan Municipality in the financial year 2024-25.
In addition to this, Haji Nurul Islam College was built in the name of his father by taking huge sums of money from the contractors of Roads and Public Ways Department. There are many complaints against Shaon about Chardakhal too. It is alleged that fees were collected in the name of giving cards to the landless.

On September 30, 2019, law enforcement forces launched an anti-casino operation in Dhaka. Evidence of casino dealings in three clubs against MP Shaun. Shaun then covered up. At that time, ACC received complaints against about 200 people who acquired illegal wealth through casino business, extortion and tendering. Shawn’s name was also on that list. In order to prevent him from fleeing the country during the investigation of the complaint, on June 13, 2021, the ACC issued a ban on his travel abroad by the order of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court.
After going into hiding on August 5, two cases have been filed against Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon at Lalmohan police station. The plaintiff of the two cases Lalmohan is a member of the municipal youth group. Maqsood Alam and Azad Rahman. Out of the two cases, one was reported to be attempted murder in 2011 and the other to extortion in January 2022. Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon has been made the main accused in the two cases. Apart from this, Lalmohan Upazila Awami League General Secretary Fakhrul Alam Howladar, Municipal Mayor Emdadul Islam Tuhin and 350 people have been accused in the case.

Corruption investigation begins
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has started a corruption investigation against former MP Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shaon for allegedly acquiring illegal wealth. A source in the agency confirmed that the decision was taken from the ACC head office on August 22.
A review of Shaon’s income tax return copy showed that, in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission in 2014, he is the owner of 26.5 percent of the land, which is worth Tk 1 crore 20 lakh 89 thousand. In the span of five years in 2018, the amount of his land is shown to be 740 percent, the value of which is shown to be 11 crore 53 lakh 89 thousand 460 taka. In 2014, he gave information about having a house and a flat in Dhaka and two houses in Lalmohan. Show the price of 2 crore 72 lakh 36 thousand 600 taka. In 2018, two houses in Dhaka and two houses in Lalmohan were mentioned, the value of which was shown to be Tk 12 crore 4 lakh 28 thousand. At that time, his annual income is 15 crore 72 lakh 75 thousand 396 and expenditure is mentioned as 5 crore 53 lakh 26 thousand 867 taka.
In the affidavit filed in the election of January 7, 2024, it is said that the annual income is 1 crore 50 lakh 47 thousand and the expenditure is 3 crore 19 lakh 98 thousand 445 taka. His business capital, car, gold ornaments and bank deposits total 33 crore 55 thousand 732 taka.

Surrender orders
Awami League’s former member of parliament Dr. The High Court suspended the release order of 15 people including HBM Iqbal and Nurunnabi Chowdhury Shawon. They have also been ordered to surrender to the judicial court immediately. This order was given on November 6.
In view of the application of Yunus Mridha, the then president of Khilgaon Thana BNP, the plaintiff of the case, Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman and Justice Md. Sagir Hossain’s bench gave this order.
Plaintiff’s lawyer. Aminul Islam said that the police and the victim Yunus Mridha had filed separate cases in connection with the shooting at the BNP rally. In two cases, 15 persons were acquitted while the cases were pending before the speedy trial tribunal after the charge sheets were issued. However, the case against the rest is ongoing. He said, after the change of pot on August 5, the plaintiff in the case, Yunus Mridha, challenged the two orders of 2010 (exempting 15 people) in the High Court. The High Court issued a ruling suspending the operation of the two orders.
Lalmohan Upazila Citizens for Good Governance (SUJAN) President Sohel Aziz Shaheen said that former member of Parliament Shaon has earned thousands of crores of rupees through corruption and irregularities. There is no end to Shawon’s corruption and crime. I demand a fair investigation and bring him under punishment.
