Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has no ban on traveling abroad, so he can go to any country, said Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud. He said this in a press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday afternoon.
The foreign minister said, ‘No ban has been given to her (Benazi) to leave the country. Neither the court nor the ACC. When someone is not banned from leaving the country, he can go anywhere.’
Regarding Benazir’s appearance at the ACC on June 6, the minister said, ‘She is appearing on June 6, it is a matter of seeing whether she is taking time or not.’
When asked what measures are being taken regarding the workers who cannot go to Malaysia, the minister said, ‘I have discussed this with the Expatriate Welfare Ministry. Bangladesh is trying to extend the time. Discussions are going on to extend the deadline for sending workers on May 31.
He also said, ‘Whoever was negligent in this case will also be investigated and appropriate measures will be taken. We are trying to extend the deadline imposed by Malaysia for a few more days.
In response to a question about Deutsche Welle’s recent documentary on Bangladesh’s peacekeeping mission in the United Nations, the foreign minister said, ‘It is very difficult to understand the gist of Deutsche Welle’s report. The report is not based on any data. It appears that the report has been deliberately made to downplay the contribution of our peacekeeping forces to the United Nations.’
