A resort of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has been seized in Purbachal of Rupganj Upazila of Narayanganj. After the seizure of the resort in an operation conducted yesterday afternoon in coordination with the district administration and the ACC, a signboard reading ‘Croc Notice’ has been pasted at the main gate.
Earlier, the court ordered the confiscation of the former IGP’s assets acquired through undisclosed income by abuse of power. Narayanganj District Administration Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Shafiqur Alam led yesterday’s operation. ACC District Office Deputy Director Moinul Hasan Roshni was also present at this time.
Later, Shafiqur Alam told the reporters, ‘On the order of the Dhaka Special Judge Court, the property named Savana Eco Resort Private Limited has been entrusted with the maintenance and supervision of the Narayanganj District Commissioner. We have taken control of this property on the orders of the Deputy Commissioner.
A team comprising the district administration and the ACC visited the resort but could not enter Benazir’s duplex house there as it was locked with a ‘digital lock’ system. Giving this information, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Shafiqur Alam also said, ‘There is a two-storey building, some dogs and birds here. The building is locked with a digital lock system. We couldn’t get inside because we didn’t have proper technicians and equipment to open it.’
This official of the district administration said that what will be done with this property will be decided according to the decision of the committee formed under the leadership of the district commissioner. He also said that the two security guards who were currently looking after the resort will remain here until tomorrow (Monday).
Savannah Eco Resort Private Limited has been constructed on 24 khata land of six plots of Police Anand Housing Society in Gutiab Mauza in Dakshinbagh area of Purbachal. Surrounded by a barbed wire boundary wall, the resort has a luxury duplex house inside. Benazir’s daughter Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir is mentioned as the owner of the resort in the ‘Croc Notice’ issued by the administration.
Locals said that the land was bought in the name of Anand Housing Society from a Hindu family in Dakshinbagh area. Later duplex house was built on this land. Benazir Ahmed often brought relatives and friends to this house. But Ratan Mia, who is in charge of looking after the house, said that no one has come for the last three months.
