A youth was killed in firing by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at Hili border in Dinajpur. A Bangladeshi youth was killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) inside India at the Hili border in Dinajpur, Bangladeshi locals said.
The incident took place yesterday Friday (February 17) around 7:30 pm in the Dharanda area of Heli, 300 yards inside the Indian border.
BGB confirmed the death of a youth in BSF firing on the border but could not confirm his identity. However, locals say that the deceased youth is Bangladeshi. His name is Shahabul Islam (23).
Lieutenant Colonel Rafiqul Islam, commander of Joypurhat-20 BGB under Dinajpur sector, said that BSF fired two rounds within 300 yards of India on Friday around 7:30 pm. The young man died on the spot. Later his body was taken by BSF. It could not be confirmed whether the young man is Bangladeshi or not.
Meanwhile, the locals said that the name of the deceased youth is Shahabul Islam alias Babu. He is the son of Abul Hossain of Dharanda Fakirpara of Hili border of Hakimpur upazila.
