Chennai Test will not be played on the fifth day after the fire was found on the third day. Bangladesh was facing defeat on the fourth day itself. That fear came true. The Tigers lost the first session on the fourth day. Rohit Sharma’s team beat Bangladesh by 280 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.
India were all out for 376 runs in the first innings in the Chennai Test. In response, Bangladesh were bowled out for 149 runs. To bat with a lead of 227 runs, India declared the innings at 287 runs after losing 4 wickets on the centuries of Shivman Gill and Rishabh Pant.
The target for Bangladesh is 515 runs. Pant scored 109 runs off 128 balls. And Gill remained unbeaten on 119 runs off 176 balls. In reply, Bangladesh were all out for 234 runs in their second innings.
Batting on a target of 515 runs, Bangladesh lost four wickets on the third day. Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto scored 51 off 60 balls and Shakib Al Hasan scored 5 runs off 14 balls to play on the fourth day. These two batsmen started the day well.
However, Shakib got out with 25 runs off 56 balls for the team’s 194 runs. After his departure, Bangladesh continued to lose wickets at regular intervals under the whirlwind of Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Liton Das 1 off 10 balls, Mehedi Hasanam Miraj returned with 8 runs off 10 balls. But keeping one end, Shanto was moving towards the century. But the Tiger skipper returned to Sajghar after scoring 82 runs off 127 balls for the team’s 222 runs. After that, Bangladesh quickly lost another couple of wickets and were all out for 234 runs in 2 balls in 62 overs. Ashwin took 6 wickets for India.
