Toll collection of 12am Thursday to 12am Friday

The Bangabandhu Bridge Authority has achieved a new record in toll collection during the Eid-ul-Azha journey.

Over the past 24 hours, from 12am Thursday to 12am Friday, a total of 53,708 vehicles crossed the Bangabandhu Bridge, generating Tk38,063,400 in tolls.

This surpasses the previous record of Tk36,032,400 collected during last year’s Eid journey.

According to the Bangabandhu Bridge Authority, 33,025 vehicles heading towards North Bengal contributed Tk20,640,000 in tolls, while 20,683 vehicles heading towards Dhaka contributed Tk17,423,400.

The Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway is the country’s second largest and serves as the main road link between North Bengal and the capital, Dhaka. During Eid, this highway experiences heavy traffic as people travel to their hometowns, leading to frequent congestion.

The Assistant Toll and Finance Manager of Bangabandhu Bridge Probir Kumar Ghosh said: “We have achieved this record by facilitating the passage of 53,708 vehicles of various types. Toll collection is managed through nine booths on each side of the bridge, and we strive to keep our toll plaza operational at all times.”

Since its commissioning in 1998, the bridge’s tolls have been collected by Computer Network Systems (CNS).
