Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 has arrested four persons in connection with the robbery of an auto-rickshaw after killing a person named Kalam Biswas (26) in Dhamrai, Dhaka. According to RAB, the accused killed Kalam Biswas and robbed the auto-rickshaw in a pre-planned manner to collect money to buy a motorcycle.
The four arrested are Shanta Moni Das alias Bicchu Shanta (19), Vijay Moni Das (20), Shrikant Karmakar (20) and Biswanath Moni Das Bishu (20) of Manikganj. RAB said that they are involved in theft and looting in Savar Bazar and Dhamrai area on Thursday afternoon in a press conference at Nabinagar camp of RAB-4.
The deceased Kalam Biswas was a resident of Dhupuria area of Nagarpur upazila of Tangail. He lived with his wife in a rented house near Uttarpara Khalek Market in Savar, Dhaka.
In a press conference, RAB said that the local people found the body of an unidentified youth lying in Paschim Barigaon area of Kulla Union of Dhamrai on Sunday afternoon. Later they reported the matter to the Dhamrai police station. Police reached the spot and recovered the body. Later, the police confirmed that the body was that of Kalam Biswas, an autorickshaw driver. Apart from this, Kalam’s wife, who was killed in the incident, filed a murder case against the unknown accused at Dhamrai police station.
In this incident, a team of RAB started investigation to identify the people involved and bring them under the law. Later on Wednesday, they conducted raids in Savar, Dhamrai and Manikganj and arrested Shanto Moni Das, Vijay Moni Das, Srikanth Karmakar and Vishwanath Moni Das.
Referring to the interrogation of the arrested accused, RAB said that around noon on June 8, Shanta Moni left home to buy a motorcycle. Later he meets Bishu and Vijay. But some money was less to buy a motorcycle. They hijacked the auto-rickshaw and decided to sell it to make up the shortfall. At one point, they called Kalam, an autorickshaw driver they knew, on the phone to take them to an entertainment center in Dhamrai. They took Kalam to a secluded place in Barigaon Paschimpara of Kulla Union of Dhamrai and consumed drugs that night. At one stage, when Kalam became unconscious, they confirmed Kalam’s death by stabbing him in the neck and chest with the switch gear that Shanta had. Vijay covered the body with straw to hide it. Bishu fled from the spot in an autorickshaw. The autorickshaw was removed with the help of their associate Srikantar.
Company Commander of RAB-4, CPC-2 Lieutenant Rakib Mahmud Khan said that the arrested four persons are involved in theft and robbery in Savar Bazar and Dhamrai area. They are drug addicts. Further legal action is pending against them. Efforts are on to recover the stolen autorickshaw.
