The Law and Arbitration Center (ASK) wants to fight the case on behalf of Firoz Hossain, a youth from Shailkupar Dhora area of Jhenaidah, who lost his hand in police firing. On Thursday, representatives of the organization went to Feroze’s residence in Uttara, Dhaka. They talk to Feroze.
Abu Ahmed Faizul Kabir, senior coordinator of ASK, said, “I have seen examples of such excessive use of force by the police in the past as well.” Exemplary punishment would not be repeated. We want to be with Feroze’s family. I will give him all kinds of legal support.
Feroze told Samakal, I want punishment for those who caused me to lose my hand. What crime should I report? Many people, including Asak, are standing by. I am getting courage.
Feroze said that on June 9, his cousin Mustafizur Rahman was arrested by the police at Shailkupa police station. When he went to the police station to inquire about the allegations against the cousin, the policemen beat him up. At one point he fell to the ground. After that, a policeman shot him in the hand from close range. Doctors amputated Feroze’s right hand at the National Orthopedic Hospital and Rehabilitation Center (Panu Hospital) on June 10.
Firoz worked for a year in a ceramic company after passing his post graduation from Dhaka College. After that, he left his job and returned to the village to become an agricultural entrepreneur.
