An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police Moktar Mia was shot dead in Ilisha Naval Police Station of Bhola Sadar Upazila. The police claimed that the bullet accidentally fired from a pistol placed on the table hit his body.
The incident took place inside Elisha Naval Station yesterday afternoon.
The injured policeman was first admitted to the 250-bed General Hospital, Bhola. As his condition worsened, he was referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (Shebachim) Hospital.
Naval Police Barisal Region Police Superintendent Kofil Uddin said, Moktar Mia will go on duty at Kaptai Lake. A constable and he was preparing. While taking the weapon from the table, Misfire was shot from one side of the stomach and exited from the other side.
He said, besides, what else you are hearing is not correct. I say with responsibility that the incident was a misfire. Now the injured policeman is in the operation room. We wish him well. Then the incident will be investigated.
Dr. Shebachim Hospital Assistant Director. Reza Alam said that the injured policeman is still not safe.
However, there is a complaint that although the firing was said to be an inadvertent incident, the firing occurred during an argument with Vidyut Barua, the in-charge of the outpost.
When Vidyut Barua was questioned about this, he stayed in the reserved room of the Gyani operation theater without giving a statement.
It is to be noted that the house of the shot policeman is in Mirsrai of Chittagong.
