Ashiq Chowdhury made a successful attempt to set a world record by jumping from an airplane flying at a height of more than 41 thousand feet. At that time, he floated in the sky holding the red-green flag of Bangladesh in both hands. In this way, he came down to the ground with the help of parachute after coming close to 4000 feet. Ashiq made this effort at Wings Field Airport in Memphis, USA on Saturday.
Ashiq Chowdhury said to Prothom Alo after successfully landing , ‘I feel very relieved to have done the job properly. Hope it will be a big record for the country.’
Ashikas jumped from the plane yesterday at 8:30 am local time in Memphis, but an hour earlier than that. During this time he had to sit in the plane wearing an oxygen mask to remove all the nitrogen from his body.
The name of Ashiq Chowdhury’s initiative to set a world record is ‘The Highest Ever Sky Dive with a Flag’. Ashiq Chowdhury flew from Bangladesh to the United States on the night of 21 May to set a record. After that he practiced for two days at the airfield. He attempted the record at the scheduled time (May 25) as the weather was favorable.
Ashiq said, ‘Having the flag in both hands, one has to gain speed to maintain balance during sky diving. Opening the parachute in time becomes very difficult when the sky starts to turn. This happened to me too. Fortunately, I was saved in this journey because I knew the technique of opening the parachute in an emergency.’
After a successful attempt, Ashiq is now waiting for the final announcement from the World Air Sports Federation. A representative of this organization was present at Wings Field Airport yesterday. He also collected pictures and videos of Ashik along with the GPS tracker. This witness will analyze these data and prepare a report. Then two more impartial judges will verify it and make the final announcement.
Ashiq said, it will take about two weeks. Only after receiving the certificate will the application for Guinness Records be made.
Ashiq Chowdhury is a banker by profession. He is currently the Associate Director of the Real Asset Finance Division of the multinational The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) in Singapore. Although the office is in Singapore, a large part of the month is spent in Bangladesh and India.
Although his home is in Chandpur, Ashiq grew up in Jessore due to his father’s job. Completed school-college at Sylhet Cadet College. Passed HSC and got admission in Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Dhaka University. After graduation in 2007, he joined a private financial institution in the country. He used to run on vacation for the thrill. Worked in this company till 2011. Then go to UK to study. He did his first sky diving there on September 19, 2012.
Ashiq Chowdhury was licensed as a private pilot after a year of training in the UK. He then underwent extensive training in sky diving under Thai Sky Adventure Company. Obtained sky diver’s license. By showing this license, Ashiq can do sky diving in any country in the world, which he started by flying the red-green flag to set a record.
