An army vehicle was vandalized and later set on fire in Gopalganj. Several people were injured in this incident.
The incident took place in the Gopinathpur bus-stand area of Gopalganj Sadar Upazila on Saturday afternoon. Hundreds of thousands of people protested in Gopalganj demanding that Sheikh Hasina be brought back to the country with dignity.
At that time they blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway. Awami League leaders and activists started vandalism when the army members asked them to lift the blockade and at one point an army vehicle was set on fire.
Awami League leaders and workers were carrying sticks, ram da and other sharp weapons during the protest. Troops reportedly fired baton charges and live ammunition to disperse the protesters, local journalists said.
Protests were held in Gopalganj for three consecutive days demanding the return of Sheikh Hasina. But today the protest has turned violent.
