Arjina Khatun earned crores of rupees illegally while working in Chittagong Custom House as Second Secretary of National Board of Revenue (Museum Monitoring, Statistics and Coordinating) Department. According to the complaint filed by Istiaq Ahmed in the ACC, Argina used to extort huge sums of money from a class of businessmen and C&F agents in the name of clearing imported goods. Many times, even if the product was not redeemed, the money would not be returned. In this way, he has built billions of wealth with the money of corruption. At the same time, he colluded with gold smugglers and seized gold worth about 6 crore rupees.
Argina Khatun was earlier Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Customs House. He was transferred to National Board of Revenue (NBR) from Chittagong a year ago. Arjina Khatun is the daughter of Ahmed Ali of Talukpara village of Baliakandi upazila of Rajbari district. It is mentioned in the complaint given to the ACC against her that Arjina Khatun bought 500 bhari gold with illegally earned money. He mentioned in his annual income tax returns that he received 100 bhari gold as a gift at the time of marriage. But there is no mention of these golds in his marriage certificate.
It is also said in the complaint that Argina bought 100 bhari gold from Royal Dhaka’s Malabar shop. He bought the remaining 300 pieces of gold from Apan Jewelers and Diamond World in Dhaka. At present the value of these golds is at least 6 crore rupees. He has mortgaged the gold in the lockers of several banks of the country and in the purchased shops.
It is mentioned in the complaint that Arjina, the second secretary of National Revenue Board, bought a flat in Mirpur of Dhaka by concealing the purchase price. Actually he bought the flat for 2 crores. But in the contract he mentioned 1 crore 21 lakh taka. In this case, he took a loan from the bank one year after buying the flat. Besides, after buying the flat, he spent 27 lakh taka on the interior design, 35 lakh taka on the electronics and furniture of the flat.
Argina has her own private car, bearing the number C-16-7458. Although the car was bought with his own money, the car was registered in the name of C&F company ‘Anby Logistics Limited’. The C&F businessman is also accused of being involved in corruption with the customs officer.
According to the complaint filed with the ACC, Arjina Khatun’s house was a 20-feet tin house before the customs job. A part of that tin room was partitioned. Alishan Bari has recently built a house in his village at a cost of Tk 90 lakh. At least another 35 lakh rupees has been spent on furniture and electronics.
It is said in the complaint, Md. of the same village is known to everyone as Arjina’s childhood friend. Abu Taher. He runs a business in airport-adjacent Kawla. While Argina was at Chittagong Customs, Peon used to send money to Ilyas and his driver Shahjahan Akhtar to two bank accounts. One in the name of Nero Enterprises, the other in the name of Bengal Trading. The accounts are with NRB Commercial Bank Limited.
The complaint further states that Arjina used to send money to her father Ali Ahmed in Sonali Bank and mother’s development in Baliakandi area of Rajbari. Not only that, Arjina has purchased 40 bighas of land in the name of her two younger brothers at a cost of 3 crore rupees. It is also mentioned in the complaint that 30 bighas of land has been mortgaged from there.
Arjina’s home village of Rajbari district in Talukpara village of Narua union of Baliakandi upazila, it is seen that the tin house is no more. Alisan houses have been built there. No one was found when he went to his house.
Several people of Talukpara village said that Ahmed Ali is a daily labourer. His family lived by fishing and farming. He has two sons, one daughter. Two sons serve in the Bangladesh Army. And daughter Arjina Khatun has built up a lot of wealth in a short time. Narua bought land in the market and built a house and rented it out. Built houses in Baliakandi town and Rajbari town. 10 to 12 birds in the field (one bird in 22 percent) purchased land. Villagers said, I cannot say whether this family has any money in the bank. However, within a few days, the financial situation of this family has changed drastically.

On condition of anonymity, a Mahendra driver said, “I took Arjina Khatun’s mother to a religious place of worship.” There he lost a gold chain worth 70 thousand rupees. Later when Argina was called, she said, no need to worry about it, it is not equal to my 1 minute earnings.
A resident of the area named Abdul Alim said, I am hearing different kinds of conversations. He has a close relationship with Motiur of Chagalkand. Argina has got so much wealth in just 3 years. The matter should be looked into and action taken.
Arjina Khatun, accused in this regard, was contacted on the phone, she mentioned all the allegations as false and fictitious and said that since her husband was divorced, such false allegations have been filed. He filed a case in this regard. Arjina says, I am in extreme turmoil now. This government official also said that he will respond if he is summoned by the ACC.
