Ameer Jamaat Dr. Shafiqur Rahman interacted with the family members of the martyrs in the anti-discrimination student movement in Kushtia.
The meeting was organized by Kushtia Zilla Jamaat at Alauddin Nagar Shikshapalli Park in Kumarkhali, Kushtia district on Sunday (September 1) at 9 am.
Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, ‘This revolution, this people’s uprising is not of any particular community, not of any particular party, not only of the students – of the masses led by the students. Congratulations to 18 crore people for this. This revolution did not happen overnight. It was an explosion of 15 and a half years of oppression, deprivation, corruption and looting, playing with people’s dignity, playing with people’s lives.’
At that time, Jamaat Amir said about the protesting students, ‘Students did not take to the streets to change the nation. They took to the streets to demand their just demands. The then mass separatist prime minister gave them a scolding. That abuse has set their blood on fire.’
He said, ‘The damage done to the state in this movement was done by the enemies of the state. Those who wanted to thwart this movement. They wanted to humiliate the world by establishing it as a riotous militant movement. This is their work, the work of crooks.
“We have demanded before, we still demand that there should be a neutral inquiry with the help of the United Nations. Who are the perpetrators, who are the criminals should come out.’
Addressing the Awami League, he said, “It is with pain that we have to say, ‘The previous government came to power on January 10, 2009.’ With the oath they started a conspiracy against the nation, on the 26th and 27th of the following month, a hellish massacre took place at the then BDR headquarters in Pilkhana, Dhaka. 57 smart patriotic officers including Director General of BDR were killed. Mother and sister were tortured.’
Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami said to the neighboring country India, ‘They are our neighbours. We want to see them as friends, still do. If my neighbor is at peace, I will be at peace. If I hurt my neighbor I must be prepared to suffer too. Why do we do that? We seek a friendly, neighborly coexistence with them based on equality, fairness and mutual respect.’
He said that the Awami League government pushed the country to the brink of destruction in the name of development. All around in the name of development, they could not do anything except looting, killing, killing and disappearing. The money of the country has been smuggled abroad and has broken the economic backbone of the country. The current interim government will give the country a beautiful country through new reforms. And they should be given as much time as it takes to do this reform work.
Mubarak Hossain, executive member and director of Kushtia-Jesore region of the party, was present at this time. Team member Dr. Alamgir Biswas, Khandkar AKM Ali Mohsin, Abdul Matin, Meherpur, Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Magura District Jamaat Amir, Central Shura Member Professor Farhad Hussain, Mufti Amir Hamza, Kushtia District and Upazila Jamaat leaders, student camp activists and local leaders at various levels.
