Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat Islami Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that the countrymen do not want to see any oppressive government in power. In the past, money has been looted in the name of river governance and development in the country. It will not be allowed to happen again. All must work together to establish peace among people of all walks of life irrespective of caste and religion. He prayed to the Almighty Lord to accept as martyrs those who laid down their lives to overthrow the dictatorial Hasina government.”
He said these things while visiting various flood affected areas in Rajnagar Upazila of Moulvibazar at 11 am on Saturday, August 24. At this time relief was distributed among 150 families affected by the flood.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said, “The 16-and-a-half-year Awami League government, the product of Fakhruddin-Mainuddin’s emergency government, turned the country into a fascist state. When they came to power, they committed the Pilkhana massacre and indiscriminately killed the smart officers of the army. Patriotic leaders like Mir Kashem Ali were hanged on false charges. The government thought the Jamaat was over by setting up the so-called ‘International Crimes Tribunal’ and killing top leaders including the then Amir and Secretary General of the Jamaat on false accusations. But by the grace of Allah and the prayers of the countrymen, the Jamaat has now become a very strong and self-reliant party. The students of this country have freed the countrymen from the long Awami misrule by overthrowing the fascist government.
