He said these things while inspecting the ‘Integrated mosquito control program to prevent dengue disease’ at Ahmed Bawani School and College in Armanitola area of the capital on Tuesday morning.
He further said, ‘The incidence of dengue is increasing, which is very worrying. 12 teams have been formed to control the dengue situation.
Hasan Arif said, ‘There is nothing to show that the minister is coming. Nothing to show for the new broom. Must go to work. The media will also need a role.’
Blaming the concerned area councilors for cleanliness, he said, ‘Everyone has to work from their place. Everyone’s awareness can prevent dengue.’
Incidentally, the outbreak of dengue disease in Bangladesh began in 2000. From 2000 to 2022 two lakh 44 thousand 246 people were infected with dengue. 853 people died during this time. Bangladesh saw the worst period of dengue in the history of the country last year. One thousand and 705 people lost their lives in 2023 along with one hundred and three lakh people admitted to hospital.
Although the outbreak of dengue was not so much at the beginning of this year, the dengue situation has been getting worse for a few days. Compared to last August, the number of dengue deaths and infected patients has doubled this September. From the end of August, the pressure of dengue patients in the hospitals gradually increased. The situation worsens by the second week of September.
