The court ordered attachment and freezing of movable and immovable assets worth around 11.5 crore rupees outside the known income of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong City Police (Prosecution Wing) Mohammad Kamrul Hasan and his wife Saima Begum.
Chittagong Senior Special Judge gave this order on Tuesday in view of ACC’s application.
ACC PP Kazi Sanwar Ahmed Lovelu confirmed the matter.
He said that the ACC has obtained the information of movable and immovable illegal assets worth Tk 11 crore 34 lakh in the name of police officer Kamrul Hasan and his wife. The investigation report was submitted to the ACC head office last month. In this situation, the accused persons cannot hand over these assets, therefore the ACC applied for a freeze. Later the court granted it.
According to ACC sources, Kamrul Hasan joined the police force in 1989 as a Sub-Inspector (SI). After getting promoted, he served as OC in various police stations including Hathajari Banshkhali. Last year, he was transferred as Additional Deputy Commissioner of City Police, Prosecution. It is alleged that he used to withdraw the bill from the state treasury without distributing the government allotted food to the convicts of the Chittagong court jail.
After the publication of a report in a national daily titled ‘Accused’s food money in police pocket’, the inquiry committee was formed on the instructions of the Commissioner of Police. The report of the committee found evidence of misappropriation of food money by the accused. But no action was taken against Kamrul Hasan.
ACC Assistant Director Emran Hossain said that there is a house in Pahartali of the city named after police officer Kamrul Hasan and a flat of 2,570 square feet worth crores of taka next to Khulshi DIG office. Monthly rent from it is 70 thousand taka. Besides, there are plots in Ananya residential area.
Apart from houses, flats and plots, Kamrul Hasan owns two markets in Savar, Dhaka called ‘Savar City Center’ and ‘Savar City Tower’. Being a government official, he did not take any permission while buying business or properties. Even though he has a house in Chittagong city, Kamrul Hasan took a plot from Ananya residential area given by Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) in secret.
His wife Saima Begum has four boats in her name. The investigation of the ACC has so far found information on illegal assets of Tk 11 crore 34 lakh. ACC Assistant Director Emran said that whether there is any other wealth in the name of Kamrul Hasan and his wife, the investigation will come out.
