Indian company Adani Power has cut power supply to Bangladesh by more than 60 percent. The company took this decision after not getting more than 800 million dollars in arrears. Two sources of the Bangladesh grid operator told Reuters news agency.

An official of Bangladesh Power Grid Information and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) said on Thursday that the Adani company reduced power supply to 520 MW.

Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, adviser to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources of the interim government, told Reuters on Thursday, “I am trying to pay the dues slowly.”

“We will not allow any power company to hold us hostage,” he said, adding, “If anyone cuts off power supply, we will make alternative arrangements.”

BPDB officials said Adani has cut power supply to Bangladesh despite the extension of dues payment deadline and resolving the dues payment issue by November 7.

This week, Reuters reported in a report that Bangladesh has opened an LC of 170 million to pay Adani’s dues. But Adani did not respond to Reuters’ request.
