Three people, including a student of Jahangirnagar University, Azmuda Akhtar, were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a three-wheeler in Ganjipur area of Gangachra, Rangpur. Three others were injured.
The accident took place in Ganjipur area of Rangpur-Tista barrage road of Gangachara upazila at around 11:30 am on Saturday. All the injured were passengers of the three-wheeler.
The rest of the dead are Deepa Rani (39), a teacher of Kishoreganj Degree College in Nilphamari and an unidentified man. The injured persons have not been identified.
Deceased Azmuda’s house in Bherbhari Hazirhat area of Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari. He came from Jahangirnagar University to Rangpur by bus early this morning as the university is on Eid holiday. After coming here, he went to his maternal grandfather’s house in Hasna Bazar area of Rangpur city. After resting there for two hours, he was going home in a three-wheeler from the city’s medical junction. He met with the accident in Ganjipur area of Gangachara upazila around 11:30 am.
The deceased was a 51st batch student of Geological Science Department of Azmuda Akhtar University. He lived in Rokeya Hall of the University. Prof. Hussain Md. confirmed the matter. Sayem.
Father Abdul Alim rushed to Rangpur Medical College Hospital after hearing the news of his daughter’s death in a road accident. He is a member of BGB. He is working in Chittagong. He also came home to celebrate Eid.
Alim said, ‘This morning before going home, he called and said, “I will be home in a while.” This is the last word with him. After a while, I came to know through this and that, the girl is no more. Died in a road accident.’
Alim also said, ‘She is a big girl. How difficult my daughter got admission in Jahangirnagar University. what a dream BCS Cadre will be. All my dreams are over.’
Police Deputy Inspector (SI) Khan Shariful Islam in charge of Taraganj Highway Police Station said that a collision between a bus and a three-wheeler took place at Chairman intersection of Ganjipur area of Gangachra at around 11:30 am. Three people died on the spot.
