Engineer Haroon Or Rashid was arrested by the students along with a huge sum of Tk. The incident took place on Thursday afternoon while performing traffic control duties in Chaumatha area of the city.
Before the arrest, the police stopped the engineer’s car and stopped it. Engineer Harun told the students that he was fleeing to India with his family at the time of the incident. Later he was handed over to the police through the army.
Harun Or Rashid is in charge of the Executive Engineer of Patuakhali Public Works Department of Barisal Division.
Ishrat Mumu, a student on duty at the scene, said that the students blocked a black private car when it overtook it while performing traffic control duties. If the driver’s behavior seems suspicious, the car is searched and cash and gold ornaments are found. Later he was arrested and the army was informed.
Major Rashed, the army officer present at the scene, said that the arrested person identified himself as the executive engineer of Patuakhali Public Works. He was coming from Patuakhali to go to India. The students arrested him and informed us. We handed him over to the police through the magistrate. A huge amount of gold ornaments along with Tk 20 lakh cash was found with him.
