UGC Chairman resigned

Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Professor Kazi Shahidullah has resigned.

He submitted his resignation to the Ministry of Education on Sunday (August 11) morning. UGC sources have confirmed this information.

In the resignation letter, he has given the reason of physical illness.

He wrote, I joined the post of chairman of the University Grants Commission on 28 May 2023 as per the notification of the Ministry of Education. I have been staying in Australia for medical treatment since August 20 last year as per the office order of Secondary and Higher Education Department due to physical illness. In view of the advice of the expert doctor of Australia and the present physical condition, I express my incapacity to perform the duties of the chairmanship of the commission.

Professor Kazi Shahidullah started his teaching career as a history lecturer in Dhaka University in February 1976. He became a university professor in February 1991. He was the head of the history department from 2002 to 2005. From 1997 to 2003, he served three consecutive terms as the elected dean of the Faculty of Arts.

He served as VC of National University from 2009 to 2013. He was appointed as UGC Chairman on October 4, 2019.
