Jabi students arrested four peddlers

Students of Jagannath University (JUB) arrested four extortionists while collecting money from a yarn trader by showing fake receipts in Shyambazar of Old Dhaka.

The incident took place at Shyambazar on the banks of Buriganga at 5 pm on Thursday. Initially, the identity of the detainees was not known.

Aggrieved businessman Abdur Rahman said, I bought yarn from Buriganga Telghat and came to Shyambazar Ghat. At that time, four people asked me to pay for crossing the ghat. The extortionists threatened that I would not be released if I refused to pay illegal extortion. I posted in three job related Facebook groups asking for help. Later, Jabi students quickly arrested the extortionists. 

Omar Farooq, a student of Islamic History and Culture Department of Jagannath University said, “We Zabi students are active in preventing extortion and robbery in Sadarghat, Banglabazar, Laxmibazar and its surrounding areas. On Wednesday also we handed over two to the army. Today (Thursday) we arrested four persons during the extortion attempt.
