‘United Kingdom did not give political asylum to Sheikh Hasina’

President Md. Sheikh Hasina submitted her resignation letter to Shahabuddin and fled the country. He first went to Agartala in India in a military helicopter. Later, the plane carrying him went to Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad near Delhi.

Popular media of West Bengal Anandabazar reported that Sheikh Hasina did not seek political asylum in India. He is probably going to London, UK. However, it is known that the United Kingdom has rejected Sheikh Hasina’s request for political asylum. Although the media could not fully confirm this news.

Incidentally, Sheikh Hasina left the country in the face of intense student movement. He left the Prime Minister’s residence or ‘Gana Bhavan’ with his sister Sheikh Rehana on Monday afternoon. From there, via Tripura’s capital Agartala, his plane landed at Hindon base in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, on the outskirts of Delhi, around 6 pm. Although it was initially heard, his plane would land at Delhi airport. 

Bangladesh has been in turmoil for the past one month around the quota reform movement. At first, there was only a demand for quota reform, but later it turned into an anti-government movement. After hundreds of people were killed in the attacks, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement called for the downfall of the government. They also announced a non-cooperation movement if Sheikh Hasina did not resign. In continuation of the movement, there was a long march towards Dhaka today.
