In order to effectively protect the border security of Bangladesh, bring the inter-state border crime down to zero quota and prevent national revenue evasion, the High Court has given four suggestions to the parliament including declaring the BGB property 10 miles inside the country from the border line, keeping the land 8 km from the border line completely empty and level.
On Saturday (July 13), a bench of the High Court gave this advice in a case verdict.
This suggestion came in the judgment of acquittal of accused Zakir Hossain from 3 years sentence in the case filed by BGB in connection with the recovery of Indian sarees at Jessore border during anti-smuggling operation in 1987. This judgment has been published on page 11 today, Saturday.
The court in its judgment said that in order to effectively protect Bangladesh’s border security and reduce inter-state border crime to zero and to prevent evasion of national revenue, the Grand National Assembly should seriously consider the following suggestions.

Advice given to the Great National Assembly:
1. Declaring the border area up to 10 miles inside Bangladesh from the border line to the Border Guard as property of Bangladesh.
2. As a result of that declaration, the amount of damages to all private property owners affected was determined by: allotment from public private property of equal value to them.
3. The land 8 km from the border line will be completely empty and level. As if every inch of this 8 km is clearly visible from a distance of 8 km.
4. The space between 8-10 km from the border line has been reserved for all the activities of Border Guard Bangladesh, including training.
The Registrar General has been directed to send a copy of the judgment and order to all the Judges of the Subordinate Courts through e-mail.
