Why is the freedom fighter quota being made a hereditary right, the question of the freedom fighter’s grandson

If you want to provide facilities, then increase all facilities including allowance of freedom fighters. Help build houses for freedom fighters who don’t have houses. Help improve their quality of life. Apart from this, why is this freedom fighter quota being made a hereditary right? The grandson of a freedom fighter threw such an open question on the social media Facebook. This poster named Imdadul Haque is a student of Statistics Department of Rajshahi University.

In the post, he wrote, I am a child of a freedom fighter family. My grandfather is a freedom fighter. My grandfather’s sons and daughters are 6 in total. Subsequently, after their marriage, the total number of children of these 6 people is 12 people (grandson, granddaughter). Then 1 freedom fighter but about 18-19 people can use his quota.

What’s more interesting is that none of the 6 families I mentioned are currently financially or otherwise dependent on my grandfather. Again, after 54-55 years of the liberation war, there is no chance to say that any effect of the liberation war still remains on these 6 families, as a result of which they could not give their children proper education and facilities, as a result, they are backward. So where is the rationale of using quota for their children?

My grandmother passed away last 5-7 years. Since all our families are almost separate, my Nana then feels that she needs to get another marriage for mobility in her old age and she does. We had no problem with that. As I said before, all our families are different. So now my grandfather and grandmother can be said to be a separate family. Now let’s come to the real point, even at this old age with no other source of income, my Nana is not financially dependent on any son or daughter of her family. He is living quite well with the benefits given to him by the government as a small reward for his bravery in the 1971 liberation war and some pension.

He also wrote, in fact, my grandfather did the liberation war, so if you want to give opportunities, then he really deserves it. If you want, increase their freedom fighter allowance, help those freedom fighters who don’t have houses to build houses. Help improve their quality of life. Apart from this, why is this freedom fighter quota being made a hereditary right?

I am a child of a freedom fighter family, the blood of a freedom fighter flows in my body, I have no doubt that my grandfather is a patriot, it never means that two generations later, the same patriotism exists in me. And my friend who is doing anti-quota movement today to get his rights is not a patriot, maybe the blood of some anti-liberation war evil is flowing in his body. What a funny thing!

Those who are still agitating for quota, those who think it is your hereditary right, bro, question your conscience once. Your father/grandfather/grandfather fought with his life for the rights of the people of this country. But they never went to war thinking that they would get any special advantage in the post-war period.

Because they did not know whether they would actually win or lose the war. They have given their lives and blood to prove that they are true warriors. So why do you need quota or benefits in college admission, university admission, government job as a child of the same family? If you come to present time and claim that you are backward, then bro, what about the millions of families in Bangladesh who cannot provide good education facilities to their sons and daughters due to lack of money?

I never mean to say that people who use quotas are not talented. You are also talented enough, just need a little hard work, then hopefully there will be no need for quota.

Talking about himself, he wrote, “I applied for the quota without realizing it after hearing about the computer shop while getting admission in college. I didn’t understand that much then. Since then I have not used quota in any exam. Now many rationalists will come out, who will come and say give proof. You are invited to Rajshahi University, no matter where you live in Bangladesh, if you come to my university, check all the documents and prove that I am admitted in the quota, then I will bear all the expenses of your travel and stay in Rajshahi.

Demanding reform of quota, he said, not only the freedom fighter quota, but all types of quotas, including pet quotas, are being demanded for reasonable reforms subject to their acceptance. If you can’t properly evaluate the country’s top talents, you can never hold them back. Just as freedom fighters have rights, every person of Bangladesh has a right as a citizen. We never want to be seen here as divided into two separate groups. Equal rights should be ensured to all citizens of the country considering all aspects. There is no place for discrimination in my golden Bengal.
