BNP Central Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku said, ‘Those who have spoken for the country have had to come under severe fire from the government. Even the scholars are not spared. Their place is in the dark cell of the prison.’
He said, ‘No one has been spared from this mafia government. From the top leaders of the opposition politicians to the grassroots, they have tried to attack the cases. Civil society, intellectuals, teachers, journalists are also being tortured.
He urged everyone to play their role regardless of party affiliation to save the country from this situation.
He said these things during an exchange of views with leaders of the newly formed Nationalist Ulama Party in Dhaka Metropolitan North and South at the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan in the capital on Saturday (July 6).
The former president of Jatiyatabadi Jubodal said, ‘Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, formed a party with people of all religions to save the country from secularism. He believed that it would not be possible to build a state by excluding the majority of the religious people of this country, excluding their emotions. Tuku said, ‘We need unity to remove this government. Scholars have to play the foremost role to create that unity at every level of the society. One of their statements is taken with great respect by common people. And that should be used. The people must be united for the country, for the people, for the voting rights of the people of the country, to bring back democracy.’
Central Joint Secretary General of BNP Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie spoke as the chief guest on the occasion. Leaders of various levels of the Ulama party also spoke.
After that, Salahuddin Tuku went to BSMMU hospital to see the sick son of Ikhtiyar Kabir, former leader of Chhatra Dal
