The court has ordered the seizure of huge amount of assets of Dhaka and Gazipur of Customs and VAT Commissioner Mohammad Enamul Haque, a resident of Sonagazi in Feni and working in Sylhet.
On Thursday (July 8), Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain issued this asset seizure order in view of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) application.
Mohammad Enamul Haque’s village house is in Sonagazi upazila Sadar Union of Sonagazi upazila, adjacent to Mongazi Bazar in the village of Sonagadi. His father is late Ahmed Rahman. He is the eldest among five brothers and one sister. He is also reported to have multiple houses in Sonagazi.
It is known that the ACC filed the case against Enamul Haque on July 31, 2023, on the allegation of acquiring known non-income assets of Tk 9 crore 76 lakh. Enamul Hossain was then Commissioner of Customs Valuation and Internal Audit Department.
The assets include a nine-storey house in Dhaka’s Bashundhara and three flats in different areas of the capital and several commercial spaces. Apart from this, the news of seizure of 47 percent of Enamul’s land in Gazipur, Gulshan and Badda areas has been revealed in the media.
One of his younger brothers, who did not wish to be named, said that Enamul Bhai was facing an embarrassing situation at the end of his working life. He is a victim of the vengeance of his rival NBR officials. His colleagues are trying to frame him by accusing him of acquiring disproportionate assets to prevent promotion.
On the other hand, a source said that even though Commissioner Enamul is in Dhaka, there are several houses including buildings in the village. Besides, he confirmed that there is management of agricultural farm with about 20 acres of land. After becoming a commissioner, many people do not know about him because he does not stay in the area for a long time, but he sometimes comes to private family functions.

Later, the news of his mother-in-law building a luxurious duplex house 10 years ago in Aru Mia village of Sonapur village of Amirabad union of Amirabad union of Sonagazi upazila of Feni was published in mass media including Naya Diganta. He built this luxurious house for his mother-in-law at the request of his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat and his wife Shammi Akhtar Shivli. Now the people of Sonagazi are embarrassed by the issue of Commissioner Enamul Haque.
