On the way to the BNP rally called to demand the release of Khaleda Zia in Natore, the convener of the district BNP senior leader Md. The miscreants cut Shahidul Islam Bachchu and injured him. The chief guest who came to attend the same program, Forest and Environment Secretary of BNP Executive Committee and former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, injured seven people.
Among the injured are District Labor Party Secretary Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, Municipal Volunteer Party convener Sabbir Hossain Chapal, Municipal BNP Ward No. 5 General Secretary Hiplu.
District BNP member secretary Rahim Newaz and joint editor Farhad Ali Dewan Shahin said that the supporters of the local parliament member of Awami League ambushed the leaders and activists who came to demand the release and medical treatment of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in Natore at 9:30 am on Wednesday morning as part of the central program. District BNP Acting Convenor Shahidul Islam Bachchu was seriously injured by a sharp weapon in front of Natore Government Girls High School when he was coming to BNP office from his residence in Faujdari Para of the city.
At that time, they cut and beat him and left him in the dirt of the road. He was sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
He said that on the way to the event, the office secretary of the District Labor Party, Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, and the convenor of the Municipal Volunteer Party, Sabbir Hossain Chapal, were beaten up. Later BNP started rally in front of district BNP office around 10 o’clock. The chief guest of the event, BNP Executive Committee Forest and Environment Secretary, former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, started his speech, and the rally was attacked again. Bulbul and some others were injured in the attack. Besides, they claimed that many leaders and activists who came to join the rally were attacked and beaten up in different parts of the city.
Rahim Newaz said that those who attacked are identified terrorists. After one attack after another in Natore, no action was taken against them, these terrorists are getting courage to attack one after another. The district BNP member secretary also complained that the police were indifferent during these attacks. Joint editor Farhad Ali Dewan Shaheen alleged that attackers detonated several cocktails and fired shots during the rally.
In this regard, Superintendent of Police of Natore Tariqul Islam said, BNP had a predetermined program. It has been confirmed that miscreants attacked three people including BNP leader Shahidul Islam Bachchu on their way to join the program. Police are working to find out who carried out the attack. However, BNP leader Mosaddek Hossain said that he did not know about Bulbul’s injuries.
