The press yesterday described a cargo ship off the coast of Spain in a report. It is said that the cargo ship ‘Borkum’ had arrived on the coast of Spain on May 15. At that time there were massive protests in the country’s port of Cartagena. Anti-Palestinian activists demanded that the ship be searched. They feared that the ship was carrying weapons to Israel. In view of this, at that time the right-wing members of the European Parliament sent a letter to the President of Spain, Pedro Santez, requesting that the ship not be allowed to enter the port. Because it will take weapons to Israel in transit. Before the Spanish government could take any action, the ship Borkum left and headed for the Slovenian port of Koper.
Al Jazeera reported that the ship had gone there from India. The ship was loaded with munitions and was bound for the Israeli port of Asod. This port is only 30 km from Gaza. According to Marine Tracking website, the ship was loaded with explosives on April 2 in Chennai, India. The ship tried to go around Africa to Israel instead of going through the Red Sea to avoid Houthi attacks. According to documents obtained by Al Jazeera, Borkum was carrying 20 tons of rocket engines, 12.5 tons of explosive rockets, 1,500 kg of explosives and 740 kg of charges and propellants for the cannon. To avoid criticism and attacks, the ship’s crew were told not to mention Israel or IMI, Israel’s largest arms manufacturer, in any way. An official of the German MLB, the ship’s owner, denied the claim that the ship was loaded with explosives. Apart from Borkum, another ship named ‘Mariana Danica’ from India was not allowed to enter the port of Spain on May 21. Spanish media reported that the ship also had weapons for Israel.
