Mass protests against tax hikes in Kenya: 10 killed in shootings

In the African country of Kenya, people have demonstrated in front of the parliament building to protest against the increase in taxes. A part of the Parliament building was also set on fire. At least 10 people were killed in police firing. Many others were injured.

This happened on Tuesday. At that time, the parliament was voting on the tax hike proposal.

Hundreds of thousands of protesters gathered in front of the Parliament building today after news of the vote on the tax hike proposal. They tried to enter the parliament building. Then the police first tried to disperse the protesters by firing tear gas shells and water cannons. At one point, the police started firing at the protesters. At this time, smoke can also be seen from inside the building.

High inflation has made the cost of living in Kenya unbearable. In the meantime, protests have started across the country due to the increase in taxes by the government. Protesters want President William Ruto’s resignation.

Apart from Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, protests are also going on in other big and small cities of the country for the same demand. Clashes between protesters and law enforcement are also taking place at various places.
