Rail transit is one of the ten MoUs signed recently during Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India.

If this is implemented, India will get the benefit of directly transporting its goods from one part of the country to another by rail using the territory of Bangladesh.

Being a memorandum of understanding means that the two countries have agreed on this issue and it is still in the early stages.

It has been informed by India that Indian railways can be run through Bangladesh in July.

Due to its geographical location, India has to get a lot of speed in bringing and taking goods and goods from the North-Eastern states. With Bangladesh in the middle, transportation of goods between the states with other parts of the country is quite expensive and time consuming.

That is why India has been asking for goods transit facility from Bangladesh. A few years ago, Bangladesh allowed goods to be transported or transited on two routes.

However, under the agreement, Indian freight trains cannot pass directly through Bangladesh, rather Bangladesh transports them from one end of the Indian border to the other.

But as a result of the new MoU, India will now have the facility of direct transportation of its products and goods by rail through Bangladesh.

“If this transit is launched, India will reduce the distance by rail within its own country,” Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra told reporters last Saturday.
