The people of Chakaria are fed up with the violence of robbers

The violence of robbers has increased in Chakaria section of Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway. Robberies and robberies are happening every day. However, the law enforcement agencies have not taken any effective action in this regard.

Last Wednesday and Thursday, a group of robbers beat up a motorcyclist who was visiting Cox’s Bazar with weapons and robbed him of money, mobile phone and motorcycle. Two such incidents have happened in succession in the duck pond area of ​​Chakaria. 

Advocate Mohammad Rubel, the victim of this incident, filed a statement at Chakaria police station on Friday night.

Sheikh Mohammad Ali, OC of Chakaria Police Station, said that Chakaria Advocate Association President Habib Uddin Mintu and General Secretary Miftah Uddin Ahmed along with some lawyers filed a statement on Friday night regarding the robbery incident. Later we sent two teams to the spot. A suspect in the previous day’s incident has been detained and questioned. 

Advocate Mohammad Rubel told Jugantar, 10 of us friends were going to Cox’s Bazar via Rangamati Sajek from Comilla. After crossing Chakaria station en route, we fell a bit behind our other team mates. When we reached the secluded area of ​​Fansiakhali Hanser Dighi around 11 pm on Thursday, six robbers on three motorcycles stopped our motorcycle from behind. Later, he took a gun and held him hostage at gunpoint. 

At this time they beat us with iron rods and injured us. My other partner Makchudur Rahman was hacked and seriously injured and robbed us of cash, mobile and an expensive Hero-Hunt model motorcycle. Later we went to the upazila health complex with the help of the locals and got treatment. 

Meanwhile, Rakib and his friends were traveling from Patia to Cox’s Bazar in the Ringbong Chagirshah cut area within one kilometer of the same place the day before this incident. On the way, 6 robbers on two motorcycles stopped them and beat them and robbed them of cash, mobile phones and two motorcycles. The victim Mohammad Rakib Uddin said that when he filed a case at the Chakaria police station, the OC of the police station recorded it as a general diary without taking the case. 

Meanwhile, on the same night, there was a robbery in several fishing enclosures in Chakaria shrimp zone, said Azimul Haque, the owner of the shrimp enclosures in Guldia area of ​​Charandeep Mauza, Surajpur Manikpur UP Chairman Azimul Haque. 

Chairman of UP Azim told Jugantar that the robbers have to pay a fee at the beginning of the season to encircle the fish in the shrimp zone. The robbers committed this incident because of non-payment. 

It is known that there are at least 35,000 acres of shrimp land in Rampur, Badarkhali, Konakhali, Thikhali, Paschim Bara Beola, Dhemushia, Charandwip, Bahaltali, Dulahajara and Khutakhali in Chakaria. As soon as the season starts in these areas, the rampage of bandit gangs and the festival of looting takes place. If someone surrounds them without paying them, there are incidents of robbery, assault and beating. Even cases of abduction of the owners and employees of the enclosure are heard.  

OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali said that there are rivers and canals around the shrimp zone area. No way the police can reach there at night. He said that the police are not sent there because of security concerns.
