According to Saudi authorities, the temperature in the holy city of Mecca has exceeded 52 degrees Celsius this year. More than 1,000 pilgrims have died due to intense heat during the current Hajj season. More than half of them were unregistered pilgrims.
The report published on Saturday reported the death of 58 more Egyptian pilgrims. A diplomatic source said 658 Egyptian pilgrims died during the Hajj season this year. 630 of them were unregistered. Besides this year, about 10 countries have reported the death of 1,81 pilgrims.
Hajj is timed according to the lunar calendar. As such, this year Hajj has also been completed during summer. At this time, the National Meteorological Center of Saudi Arabia recorded a temperature of 51.8 degrees Celsius in the Grand Mosque of Mecca.
