The main congregation of the holy Eid-ul-Azhar was held at Sylhet’s traditional Shahi Eidgah Maidan despite the heavy rain.

The congregation was held at 8 am on Monday. However, this year the number of worshipers was very less compared to other Eids. Every Eid, lakhs of worshipers offer their Eid prayers here, but due to adverse weather, the number of worshipers present in today’s congregation was less. The worshipers present at the Eidgah can be seen praying with umbrellas.

Maulana Mufti Abu Horaira Noman, front imam of Bandarbazar Central Jame Masjid led the imamate and later prayers in this Eid Jamaat of Sylhet. In this prayer is prayed for the continued happiness, peace and welfare of the country.

Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Md. Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury and various political, social and public representatives were present in the Eid congregation.

However, due to continuous heavy rain since dawn in Sylhet region, the number of worshipers in the mosques was more than the Eidgahs in the Eid congregation this time.

Although many Eidgah congregations were scheduled to be held, Eidgah authorities canceled Eid congregations in many Eidgahs due to heavy rains and inclement weather. As a result, the worshipers perform the Eid congregation in the mosques of their respective areas.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has started in Sylhet since Sunday night. Many areas of Sylhet city have already been submerged. Many people’s houses and businesses have been flooded with water. Several roads outside the Sylhet metropolis have been submerged due to heavy rains. In addition, many roads are almost waist-deep in water. In this situation, the people of the waterlogged areas have suffered greatly. Many could not go to the Eid congregation.

The weather forecast had earlier said that there may be rain in Sylhet region on the day of Eid.
